DW: UNESCO wants to assess alterations at Hagia Sophia, Chora Church by Islamist Turkish govt

Deutsche Welle’s Turkish service this week confirmed that UNESCO wants to examine official Turkey’s alterations to the Hagia Sophia and the Chora Church, both World Heritage Sites and iconic Orthodox basilicas that the Erdogan regime reconverted into mosques. DW quoted the online news portal Duvar.

The United Nation’s cultural body has said that it wants to review the changes that Turkey has undertaken at the iconic Orthodox Cathedrals.

Ernesto Ottone Ramirez, UNESCO’s assistant director-general for culture, recently called on the Turkish government to allow Mounir Bouchenaki, an honorary special adviser of UNESCO, to inspect the changes at the two historical sites.

Ottone is concerned about the reports that the Islamist Turkish government has been making changes with regards to the Christian elements at the two monuments.
