Ecclesiastical splendor, millennia-old Athonite tradition with Ecumenical Patriarch’s presense on Mt. Athos (VIDEO + PHOTOS)

The Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople officiated at Sunday’s archieratical and celebratory Divine Liturgy at the Holy Monastery of Xenophontos, on the semi-autonomous monastic community of Mt. Athos, in northern Greece.

The service, replete with Orthodox ecclesiastic splendor and millennia-old Athonite and Byzantine tradition, was co-officiated by several Orthodox Metropolitans, hierarchs and Abbots of the Holy Monasteries of Mt. Athos, in the presence of hundreds of pious pilgrims from around the world, including from the Ukraine and Russia.

The Monastery of Xenophontos this year is celebrating the 200th anniversary of the building of its “Catholicos”, the main part of the primary Cathedral within the Monastery.
