Ecumenical Patriarch officiates at Divine Liturgy in birthplace of St. Nektarios of Aegina

The Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, His All-Holiness Bartholomew I, on Sunday officiated at the Divine Liturgy at the Acropolis of Sylivria, and specifically at the Kale Park, to mark the 100th anniversary since the repose of St. Nektarios of Aegina, who was born in Sylivria, known in Turkey today as Silivri.
In a homily, the Ecumenical Patriarch that “…with emotion, joy and reverence we assembled here today at the birthplace of St. Nektarios, to honor his all-holy memory”.

After the service, the Ecumenical Patriarch awarded the offikion of Oikonomos of the Ecumenical Throne to Vasilios Ioannidis, a clergyman of the Archdiocese of Constantinople, who also serves the Metropolis of Sylivria.
