The Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, His All Holiness Bartholomew I, on Thursday arrived at the Holy Monastery of Valoukli, where he officiated at a trisagion memorial service for the soul of his 19th century predecessor on the Patriarchal throne of Constantinople, Anthimus V, whose grave lies within the monastery’s cemetery.

Afterwards, the Ecumenical Patriarch visited the community of the Holy Transfiguration of Kandilli, as he customarily does in early September every year, to perform a trisagion at the tomb of Patriarch Anthimus VI, who lies in the courtyard of the church.

His All Holiness was accompanied by the Metropolitan of France, His Eminence Emmanuel, and the Archbishop of America, His Eminence Elpidophoros.

On the occasion of visit to Kandilli, the Ecumenical Patriarch was given a tour of the thoroughly renovated church and its courtyard, while visiting the community hall, where he was briefed over the good works undertaken by the historical sanctuary of Panaghia Gioksu, as it is known locally.
