The Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, His All Holiness Bartholomew I, over the weekend again expressed a wish that the Theological School of Halki again open its doors… “after 49 years of silence,” as the Patriarch sadly noted.
His All Holiness spoke at the enthronement of Bishop Kassianos as the new Abbot of the Holy Patriarchal and Stavropegic Monastery of the Holy Trinity, which is adjacent to the historic but still closed seminary.
The school of theology, which for decades served as the primary seminary for clerics of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, was ordered closed by Turkish authorities in 1971.
