The election of a new president in Croatia has raised hopes that better days will dawn for the minority Serbian Orthodox minority in the one-time Yugoslav republic.
At the same time, in another former Yugoslav republic, the small Adriatic country of Montenegro, the Orthodox Church there continues to strongly oppose a new law mandating that it provide proof of ownership and deeds for its properties dating to before 1918.
The president of the Serb National Council in Croatia, Boris Milosevic, emphasized that he hopes the new president, Zoran Milanović, will remain consistent with what he promised during the campaign.
Milosevic told the media that “…The Serbs heard these messages well and voted overwhelmingly for him… We hope the property of Serbian Orthodox Church will be returned to its owners.”
