The Archbishop of America, His Eminence Elpidophoros, on Thursday met with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo at the State Department in Washington DC, just days before the latter is due to arrive in Greece for an official visit.
According to reports, the Primate of the Greek Orthodox Church in America conveyed the concerns of the Greek-American community over the need for a protection of Christian minorities in Turkey, as well as over the recent belligerence by official Turkey in the eastern Mediterranean.
Previously, reports stated that the Archbishop would also broach the latest and most serious provocation against Christianity, and especially Orthodoxy, namely, the insolent decision by Turkey’s president last July to convert the Hagia Sophia into a mosque.
