Father Necula about the unseen consequences of drug use: A whole generation losing its meaning!
Father Constantin Necula expressed concern about drug use among young people in Romania. “Everyone looks only at the physical consequences, massive accidents, loss of consciousness, falls. People, a whole generation is losing its meaning!” emphasised the priest.
“It’s the worst thing Romania is now subjected to. And I see nothing to support a meaningful re-branding of these children.”
He made the remarks at the “YES life without drugs” conference organised in Sibiu, Romania.
The clergyman recalled volunteering with the Blue Cross organisation, where he interacted with young drug users: “Think that there is someone in the child whom you don’t know,” recounted Father Constantin Necula.
“It’s too big a drama to dedicate it just conferences, symposiums and meetings,” he continued.
“Romania is ours. No one has to come from anywhere to solve our situation. Wake up! No one has to come from nowhere to teach us the Romanian language, Romanian dignity and how to help people.”
“In a country that screams continually, we must keep calm and remember that there is a quiet, wise saying: much can do the few good people together,” said Father Necula.
“We must give Romania an alternative. And the alternative is: ‘If we stand together, no one will defeat us’.” No appropriate politics for the issue? No problem. We are the anti-drug policy. No funding? No problem. We are the anti-drug funding. No will? That seems to have suddenly become very fashionable. Let us give from our will to others.”
“That’s what a healthy social body is: offering, giving, not messing people.”
The conference was also attended by former addicts, local officials, representatives from the Romanian Police, Georgiana Drăgan Moldoveanu – the Director of a rehabilitation centre of the Teen Challenge Romania Association, and Romanian actress Maia Morgenstern.
