The Church today venerates the memory of the Holy Prophet Aggaeus, known as Haggai.

This prophet’s name means “festive” in Hebrew.

He was born in Babylon at the time of the captivity of the Jews. His prophecy, divided into two chapters, is ranked 10th among the minor Prophets.

Today is also the feast day of Modestos, Archbishop of Jerusalem, as well as the Righeous Mother, the Blessed Empress Theophania.

An Archieratical Divine Liturgy was held on Wednesday at the Patriarchal Church of St. George, at the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople’s seat, with the Metropolitan of Philadelphia, His Eminence Meliton, officiating at the service in memory of St. Theophania.
