The memory of George, the New Martyr of Ioannina, the patron saint of Greece’s presidential guard, is venerated today.
The saint, whose image is shows Him wearing the traditional kilt-like fustanella, also worn by members of the honor guard in front of Parliament and the president mansion, was declared the patron saint and protector of the guard in 2018.
