The Church today venerates the memory of the Holy Great Martyr Procopius.
Procopius in Greek means “progress” or “advancement”, a name the saint assumed after the Lord appeared to him during his imprisonment in Caesaria.
St. Procopius achieved the crown of martyrdom when he was beheaded in the year 290, after numerous torments and imprisonment, never renouncing his Christian faith.
