The Feast Day of the Presentation of Our Lord and Savior in the Temple (based on the Julian calendar) was venerated with centuries-old Athonite tradition at the Holy and Great Monastery of Vatopedi on Saturday.
The Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople’s Metropolitan of Proikonnisos, His Eminence Joseph, officiated during the services.
During a con-celebratory Divine Liturgy, co-officiated by the Elder Archimandrite Ephraim, the Abbot of the Holy and Great Monastery of Vatopedi, the deacon Lazaros, of the Vatopedi brotherhood, was ordained as a priest.
During the Divine Services (acolouthia), the right protopsaltes were members of the Philathonites choir, while the left side was taken up by Vatopedi elders, under the direction of Georgios Konstantinou.
A customary Athonite “kerasma”, or welcoming treat, was served at the Monastery’s synodical hall, where the Elder Archimandrite Ephraim expressed his appreciation to His Eminence Joseph for the latter’s visit to the Holy and Great Monastery of Vatopedi.
