Feast day of Sergius and Bacchus, the Great Martyrs of Syria

The Church today venerates the memory of Sergius and Bacchus, the Great Martyrs of Syria.
These holy Martyrs were Romans of high rank in the service of the Emperor Maximian, to whom it was reported that they refused to take part in pagan festivals. When the emperor called them into his presence, they confessed their Faith in the one God. They were tortured and achieved the crown of martyrdom in roughly the year 296.
