Feast day of St. Athanassia of Aegina
The Orthodox Church on April18 commemorates the memory of St. Athanassia of Aegina.
Born in the 9th century, Athanasia became a widow at a young age.
She subsequently gave away the bulk of her possessions to the poor, converted her home into a convent and began building churches. She later served as an abbess and was known for her miraculous healing of the sick.
