The skipper and crew of the Nissos Samos ferry boat on Sunday evening sounded the vessel’s horn and illuminated the deck when passing off the coast of Vrontados, on the eastern Aegean island of Chios (Hios), and specifically off the shore of celebrating St. Nicholas Cathedral, and on the occasion of the feast day of Nicholas the Wonderworker, the Archbishop of Myra.
The parish priest, Fr. Ioannis, reciprocated by ringing the church bells, as he has done for the past several years to greet passing vessels on Dec. 6, the feast day of St. Nicholas, the patron saint of seamen.

Numerous merchant seamen and mariners hail from the specific Hios island township.
