Feast of St. Stephen celebrated at Metropolitan cathedral in Arnea, N. Greece, without presence of worshippers

The feast day of St. Stephen on Sunday was celebrated at the Metropolitan cathedral in the city of Arnea, which is dedicated to the saint, but with the Greek and Byzantine flags outside the church flying at half-mast.

The Protomartyr and Deacon of The Faith is the patron saint of the small city.

In adhering to the lockdown measures in effect in Greece to prevent exposure to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Vesper service on the eve of the feast day, along with the same-day Orthros service and the con-celebratory Divine Liturgy on Sunday afternoon were celebrated without the presence of worshippers.

In fact, and in a very disappointing scene, police were stationed outside the cathedral to prevent the entry of worshippers.

The services were officiated by the Metropolitan of Ierissos and Mt. Athos, His Eminence Theoklitos.
