Feast of the Exaltation of Holy Cross celebrated at Holy Cross Monastery in Jerusalem
The Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy and Life-Giving Cross was celebrated on Sunday at the Holy Cross Monastery, located in West Jerusalem.
The occasion, as based on the Julian calendar, was celebrated in memory and honor of the tradition by which the area of the Monastery, under Biblical Lot, was where the three-composite wood of cedar, pine and cypress was planted, from which the Cross was made, on which Lord Jesus Christ was crucified for mankind’s salvation.
A Great Vespers on Saturday and the Divine Liturgy on Sunday morning were officiated by the Exarch of the Holy Sepulchre in Constantinople, His Eminence Archbishop Nektarios, and co-officiated by several other hierarchs.
The Patriarch of Jerusalem, His Beatitude Theophilos III, and Holy Sepulchre Fathers also visited the monastery during the services.
