Forty-two hierarchs of the Holy Synod of the Georgian Patriarchate convened on Thursday in Tbilisi under the chairmanship of the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II, to consider what the Church considered as insulting statements by the Reverend Petre, the now former Metropolitan of Chkondidi, against the Catholicos-Patriarch.

Reverend Petre was fired yesterday relieved from the post by the Holy Synod, while Church hierarchs also demanded that he apologize to the Catholicos-Patriarch over the accusations he made.

In a later statement, Ilia called on Church hierarchs to do whatever necessary to ensure peace within the Church and in the Caucasus country, and not to give believers cause to doubt their faith.
