Today, when our two brotherly countries are at war and the blood of our brothers is shed on the Holy Land of the Caucasus, I believe your prayers for peace will save us and bring peace”, – Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili told Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II at the ceremony of awarding honoris causa to His Holiness and Beatitude.
As InterPressNews was informed by the Presidential Administration, Salome Zourabichvili spoke about the merits of the Patriarch and noted that the Georgian Apostolic Autocephalous Orthodox Church was reborn in his hands as a full member of the world church family.
“Your list of merits is endless! Georgian society appreciates your great service to our country, which is first of all reflected in the loyalty and care for the state and society during these difficult years,” Salome Zourabichvili said.
According to the administration of the President of Georgia, the event was attended by the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia as well.
