Great Blessing of the Waters service by Ecumenical Patriarch in ancient Trigleia – based on Julian calendar – (VIDEOS)

The Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, His All Holiness Bartholomew I, again officiated at a Great Blessing of the Waters ceremony on Sunday in the southeastern Marmara Sea town of Trigleia – known in Turkish as Tirilye – on the occasion of the Feast Day of the Epiphany, as celebrated with the Julian calendar.

Based on the Gregorian calendar, as followed by the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Greece, Epiphany was celebrated 13 days ago on Jan. 6.

The Ecumenical Patriarch tossed the True Cross into the waters of the Marmara Sea off the quayside at Trigleia for a second straight year.

A Patriarchal Divine Liturgy was earlier celebrated at the Panagia Pantobasilissa, or Cathedral of the Lady Queen of All.

A unique documentary of the first Great Blessing of the Waters after 1922, which was held last year, is posted today on the pages of the Orthodoxia News Agency.
