Greek PM in US extols role of the Church for expatriate communities
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis cited the very significant role of the Church, speaking in Washington D.C. to representatives of Greek-American and expatriate organizations, during a reception in his honor, and shortly before his return to Greece.
Among others, the Greek premier thanked the Archbishop of America, His Eminence Elpidophoros, for the very crucial ecclesiastical post he has assumed, calling the Primate of the Greek Orthodox Church in America a “visionary”.
Mitsotakis, his spouse Mareva, and members of an official Greek government delegation on Monday attended the annual Great Blessing of the Waters ceremony in Tarpon Springs, Florida, itself a historic enclave of Hellenism dating to the early 20th century with the arrival of sponge divers and their families for the eastern Aegean island of Kalymnos.
