Greeks get high scores in Pew Research Center survey on belief in God in relation to morality

Greece apparently has the largest share of residents in Europe who link belief in God to morality.
In particular, residents in Greece rank first, in the Western World, in the conviction that a belief in God is synonymous with morality, and even higher than in the United States in terms of importance of religion in their lives.

The figures are found in a global survey undertaking by the US-based Pew Research Center, and conducted in 34 countries last year with the participation of nearly 39,000 respondents.

Of the 13 EU countries in which the survey was conducted, Greece is in the first place for stressing that belief in God is a prerequisite for being moral, at 53 percent, followed by predominately Orthodox Bulgaria with 50 percent, and Slovakia in third place with 45%.

When asked about prayer, 73% of Greek respondents answer that it plays an important role in their lives.

In Romania, the new Archbishop of Suceava and Rădăuți, His Eminence Callinicus, was enthroned on Sunday at the Archdiocese’s seat.

His Eminence was elected by members of the Holy Synod of the Patriarchate of Romania last week, after the repose of 90-year-old Archbishop Pimen.
