His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros attends the Annual Christmas Concert of Romanos the Melodist at the Transfiguration of Christ Greek Orthodox Church in Corona, NY
On Sunday, December 10, 2023, His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America attended the Byzantine Christmas Concert Featuring Romanos the Melodist Chanters’ Association of New York at the Transfiguration of Christ Greek Orthodox Church in Corona, New York.
Last evening’s concert was the Association’s first musical performance for the current ecclesiastical year. As part of its cultural contribution, the Association also participates in local area church services, such as festal vespers, or special concerts designed to promote the art of Byzantine chanting and enrich Orthodox Christian worship.
The Romanos the Medlodist Chanters’ Association of New York was founded in 2023 with the blessing of Archbishop Elpidophoros and the initiative of the local area chanters of greater New York. The Association provides free classes in Byzantine music and traditional Greek instruments every Monday evening at the Transfiguration of Christ Church in Corona, New York, which graciously offers the use of its facilities in support of this effort. These classes are open to anyone interested in learning more about traditional Greek music and developing their musical skills. The purpose of these classes is to spread the art of Byzantine music and train new chanters to serve in local parishes and carry on this rich spiritual and cultural legacy.
