The Holy Synod of the Georgian Orthodox Church will continue discussions about the ongoing processes in the Church of Ukraine during the next meeting. Based on the decision made on December 27, Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II expresses concern over the ongoing processes in Ukraine, as well as the recent relations between Constantinople and the Patriarchate of All Russia.
“I would like to direct your attention to what happened in Ukraine, between the Constantinople and the Russian Patriarchate. The situation in Ukraine is extremely tense, there is no one opinion, unanimity. The Russian Church has stopped mentioning the world Patriarch in prayers, cut the Eucharist ties.
The World Patriarchate started the procedures for granting autocephaly to Ukraine, which further deepened the current crisis, making us sad. The Church has had many troubles during history has overcome it. We hope that through the power of God the brotherhood unity will be restored between the churches,” Catholics-Patriarch of All Georgia said.
