War-ravaged Syria continues to experience one of the worst humanitarian crises in the 21st century.

According to figures supplied by the United Nations, more than 900K people have been displaced in the country just in the last three months, with the vast majority being women and children.

The nine-year war in the Mideast country has been devastating for the once-vibrant Christian communities in Syria.

Christians have been systematically targeted for elimination by Islamist terrorist groups, active in the areas of the country not controlled by the government.

More than 700,000 Christians have reportedly fled Syria since 2011.

As recently as 1920, Christians of various denominations in Syria were estimated at roughly 30 percent of the population. In 2015, that figure had fallen to 10 percent, out of a total population of 22 million.

A feature is posted today on the pages of the Orthodoxia News Agency regarding the persecution faced by Christians in Syria.
