Increased interest in pilgrimages to Greece by Romanian Orthodox faithful

The most popular destinations for Romanian pilgrims in 2019 were Greece, the Holy Land, Jordan and Egypt, according to the site basilica.ro

Overall, Israel was again the primary destination for Romanian Orthodox pilgrims.

Additionally, Turkey, Armenia and Georgia also recorded an increase in interest amongst Romanian pilgrims.

Religious tourism and pilgrimage tours have posted a significant growth in Romania over recent years, where more and more people combine an out-of-country holiday with a spiritual journey to a well-known monastery, cathedral or monument.
