Greece’s education ministry is expected to proceed with reforms and changes at all education levels in 2020, according to reports. Nevertheless, reports are still sketchy on the initiatives that Minister Niki Kerameos will announce in terms of the religious lessons curriculum in primary and secondary schools.

Kerameos, immediately after assuming her portfolio, said the ministry will adhere to a ruling by the European Court of Human Rights regarding religious lessons in the country.

At the same time, the Council of State, the highest administrative court in Greece, last September ruled that the religious curriculum in Greek public schools must strive to develop a Christian Orthodox consciousness – and that the lesson should be directed exclusively to Christian Orthodox pupils.
