about the foreign words in our language
The members of the research staff of the Institute of Modern Greek Studies (Manolis Triandaphyllidis Foundation), willing to contribute to the recent debate, sometimes held in exaggerated terms, about the use of foreign words in our language, would like to refer to a classic – and unfortunately not very well-known – text by M. Triandaphyllidis, entitled
“Xenilasia or isotelia: a study on the foreign words of Modern Greek”,
which is posted on the Institute’s website.
Published 115 (!) years ago, this study by M. Triandaphyllidis gives sober answers to many questions that still concern us as a society and to which the community of philologists and linguists is invited to contribute with its scientific knowledge and opinion.
It is not addressed only to experts – although the experts should be aware of it – but also to anyone seeking the truth in reality and not resorting to the easy solution of soundbites.).
