The Bishop of Toliara and southern Madagascar, His Grace Prodromos, spoke to the Orthodoxia news agency this week, where he referred to newly dedicated Holy Monastery of St. Joseph the Hesychast, the first cenobitic Orthodox monastery on the large Indian Ocean island nation.

Back in Greece, the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, His Beatitude Ieronymos, celebrated His name day on Tuesday.

Due to public health restrictions and recommendations in place, the Hierarch will not hold a public celebration.

In an announcement, the Metropolis of Thebes and Livadia, where Ieronymos served as the Metropolitan for many decades, referred to a renaissance of ecclesiastical life and spirituality in the south-central Greece prefecture of Viotia during Ieronymos’ ministry.

The announcement read: “…and then He, Ieronymos, assumed the throne of the Archdiocese of Athens, quietly continuing His work, aimed at the salvation of man.”
