Kazakh Ambassador pays first visit to Bukovina: Putna Monastery is a welcoming, restful place

The Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Romania visited Putna Monastery on Friday and was impressed by the monastic settlement, the history of Bukovina, Saints Stephen the Great and Jacob of Putna.

On his first visit to Bukovina, Ambassador Nurbakh Rustemov was accompanied by his wife and one of their daughters.

The Ambassador especially appreciated the unique contribution of Saint Stephen the Great to the history of the Romanians and the fact that the monastery is a welcoming and restful place not only for Romanians but for anyone who crosses its threshold.

Nurbakh Rustemov paid special attention to the work of supporting families that St. Jacob carried out during his life. He greatly supported the family and the education of rural children, managed to convince the Phanariot ruler prince of his time to abolish two of the heaviest taxes in the country, vadarit (taxes on wine production) and vacarit (taxes on cows).

“We are in Bucovina for the first time and we visit some monasteries, and one of their pearls is Putna – we discovered this ourselves. It is an impressive and emotional place, not only for the history of Romanians, but I think it shows us how to understand the spirit of history and civilization.”

“We are grateful for today’s visit and for the opportunity to be close to your history and to discover in depth the interesting history of the Orthodox Church in Moldavia and in this region,” the Kazakh Ambassador said Oct. 30.

Excelența Sa, Domnul Nurbakh Rustemov, Ambasadorul Kazahstanului în România, soția și o fiică au vizitat vineri, 30 octombrie, Mănăstirea Putna. Alături de Ambasador s-au aflat Consulul Ambasadei, domnul Azamat Kagenov, și Ministrul – Consilier al Ambasadei, domnul Kairat Karabayev. Domnul Ambasador a apreciat în mod deosebit contribuția unică a Sfântului Ștefan cel Mare la istoria românilor și faptul că mănăstirea este un loc primitor și odihnitor de suflet nu doar pentru români, ci pentru oricine îi calcă pragul. De asemenea, a acordat o atenție deosebită lucrării de sprijinire a familiei pe care Sfântul Iacob Putneanul a desfășurat-o în timpul vieții și faptului că tot sprijinirea familiei este cererea care i se adresează cel mai adesea de către credincioșii care i se roagă acestui sfânt. La plecare, Domnul Ambasador a spus: „Suntem pentru prima dată în Bucovina și vizităm câteva mănăstiri, iar una dintre perlele acestora este Putna – am descoperit aceasta noi înșine. Este un loc impresionant și emoționant, nu numai pentru istoria românilor, dar cred că ne arată cum să înțelegem spiritul istoriei și al civilizației. Suntem recunoscători pentru vizita de azi și pentru posibilitatea și oportunitatea de a fi aproape de istoria dumneavoastră și de a descoperi în adânc istoria interesantă a Bisericii Ortodoxe în Moldova și în această regiune. Vă mulțumim mult pentru ce ați făcut pentru noi.
