Kosovo Albanian leadership demands UNESCO stop referring to historic Serbian Orthodox monasteries in province as “Serbian”
In yet another ominous development from the strife-plagued Kosovo and Metohija province, Kosovo Albanian leaders this week sent a letter to UNESCO, demanding that four historic Serbian Orthodox Church monasteries located in the province be removed from the organization’s List of World Heritage Sites in Danger.
The Kosovo Albanians also demanded that UNESCO no longer refer to the monasteries as Serbian, but as Kosovan. They also want UNESCO to stop referring to Kosovo as an “autonomous province,” and to end Serbia’s right to protect the religious monuments, located in what is known as the cradle of Serbian civilization.
