‘Man of God’ director Popovic: Film impossible without support of Vatopedi Monastery, St. Maximos the Greek Institute

Serbian-American director and writer Yelena Popovic spoke to the Romanian-language ecclesiastical site Basilica this week about the award-winning film “Man of God”, which recounts the life, works and tribulations overcome by 20th century St. Nektarios of Aegina.
The inspirational film, which posted record ticket sales in Greece and Cyprus, and has been shown in several countries, is now due to debut in Romania today.
Popovic, who directed the film and wrote the screenplay, underlined the imperative contribution of the Holy & Great Monastery of Vatopedi, and the personal interest shown by Elder Archimandrite Ephraim, the Abbot of the venerable Mount Athos monastery, towards this very successful cinematic production.
She noted that “…without the Elder Ephraim, without the Holy Monastery of Vatopedi, without the St. Maximos the Greek Institute, this movie would not have been shot. We completed the creative part, but they found the resources and believed in us. I am very grateful.”
Popovic said her goal was to bring St. Nektarios to peoples’ hearts.
