Media reports in Turkey and Greece this week claimed that the increasingly bellicose Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has taken exception to 15-meter Cross erected a little more than two kilometers from the Greek-Turkish land border in the Evros prefecture, and on a spot outside the Holy Monastery of St, Paraskevi, in the Nea Vyssa township.

According to reports, the Cross is brightly illuminated at night and is visible from the Turkish border city of Edirne, known for nearly two millennia as Adrianople.

Turkish media, in fact, claimed that Erdogan would complain about the Christian symbol to German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

The religious landmark was consecrated during a service officiated His Eminence, the Metropolitan of Didymoticho, Orestiada and Soufli, Damaskinos.
