Metropolitan Amphilochios: Orthodoxy’s struggle in Montenegro coincides with 800-year anniversary of Serbian Orthodox Church foundation

Opposition continued unabated in the small Adriatic country of Montenegro over a controversial law passed by the government regarding religious institutions. Thousands of faithful and clergymen again took to the streets in peaceful protest against the law, as the Orthodox Church in Montenegro has repeatedly and vocally warned that the contentious law is aimed directly against it — essentially allowing the state to confiscate much of its assets and relics.
In addressing the faithful from the city of Tivat, the Metropolitan-Bishop of Montenegro and the Littoral, His Eminence Amphilochios, stressed that Orthodoxy’s struggle in the country coincides with the 800-year anniversary of the establishment of the Serbian Orthodox Church.
