Metropolitan Joseph meets with Lebanese President Aoun
Following last week’s meetings of the Holy Synod of Antioch at Balamand Monastery in Lebanon, His Eminence Metropolitan Joseph, Primate of the Antiochian Archdiocese, was received by the President of the Republic of Lebanon, His Excellency Gen. Michel Aoun, at the Baabda Palace in the Lebanese capital of Beirut.
Joining His Eminence on Monday were Mr. Fawaz El Khoury, vice-chairman of the Archdiocesan Board of Trustees, and Mr. Salim Abboud, chief financial officer of the Archdiocese. Also participating in this meeting was His Excellency Mr. Yacoub Sarraf, former defense minister of the Lebanese Republic.
President of the Republic, Michel Aoun, on Monday stressed that Lebanon will emerge from its current difficult economic situation, indicating that the adopted measures at the economic and monetary levels aim at revitalizing the national economy and production sectors.
President Aoun affirmed that Lebanon is capable of coping with the pressures it faces, from within and from outside- especially that “national unity is safeguarded and political differences do not affect the general national position,” as he said.
The Head of State also noted that his undertaken contacts in the last 48 hours have resulted in positive outcomes with regard to the popular movements of currency exchange agents and gas station owners.
“I will continue these efforts to resolve the remaining standing matters,” Aoun maintained.
Aoun was speaking during his meeting with the Antiochean Orthodox Archbishop of New York and all North America, Joseph Al-Zehlaoui, accompanied by Vice President Fawaz El Khoury and Financial Officer Salim Abboud.
The meeting took place in the presence of former Minister Yaacoub Al Sarraf.
Aoun also met at Baabda palace with MP Michel Mouawad over the current general situation and latest developments on the local scene.
On the other hand, Aoun met with the “Popular Bloc” President Miriam Skaff, who handed him an invitation to attend the memorial mass marking the fourth anniversary of the passing away of former MP and former minister Elie Skaff at Our Lady of Zahle and the Bekaa.
The visit was a chance to dwell on the general situation in the country and most recent developments at the political and economic levels.
