The Metropolitan of Mesogea and Lavreotiki, His Eminence Nikolaos, issued a statement this week initially reminding that many countries in Europe, along with North America, are allowing the opening of houses of worship for services in the presence of worshippers.

His Eminence, at the same time, bemoaned the fact that stricter measures on Church-going have been imposed in Greece, instead of a gradual easing of measures, whereby “worship is being policed”

He added “…Why, in our blessed land, which is full of monasteries, chapels and pilgrimage sites, does one risk being fined if they go and light a candle.”
