Metropolitan of Moldova accuses the government of disdain for the Church

Metropolitan Vladimir of Kishinev and All Moldova addressed an open letter to Prime Minister Ion Chicu and expressed his discontent that easing quarantine did not affect the ban on worship.

The letter posted on the website of the Moldovan Metropolis on Wednesday, expressed extreme dissatisfaction with “the cruel measures imposed by the government on the Church” during the Holy Week, Easter, when believers were not allowed to enter churches, and Orthodox memorial day – Radonitsa, when people were not able to visit graves of their beloved ones.

“The saddest thing for us was that the authorities easily choose markets and grocery stores as a priority though they are crowded with citizens, and the Church was considered alongside with construction supermarkets and stores, as well as companies providing services and entertainment,” Metropolitan Vladimir said in his address to the Prime Minister.

The hierarch called this governmental approach “disturbing and completely unacceptable”.
