The Metropolitan-Bishop of Montenegro and the Littoral, His Eminence Amphilochios, met and made joint statements this week with the Serbian Orthodox Bishop of Niksic, His Grace Ianike, in the wake of imposed measures against the spread of the coronavirus in the small Adriatic country.
Both hierarchs also decried what they called the selective and illegal actions by police in Montenegro against the faithful and the Orthodox Church in the country.
In a related development, the Church in Montenegro today venerates the memory of St. Basil of Ostrog, a Serbian Orthodox bishop of the 17th century.
The saint’s tomb, in a cave-church, became a site of pilgrimage for Christians and even non-Christians after his repose, drawn by the miracles that materialized through the intercession of St. Basil.
