Metropolitan of Volokolamsk: Meeting called by Patriarch of Jerusalem in Amman to be held next Wed.

The Metropolitan of Volokolamsk and head of the Moscow Patriarchate’s department for external church relations, His Eminence Hilarion, disclosed that a meeting of Orthodox Primates will take place in Amman, Jordan next Wednesday.

The meeting has been called by the Patriarch of Jerusalem, His Most Godly Beatitude Theophilos III. The Russian Metropolitan, in fact, cited a letter sent by Theophilos to announce the date, while adding that delegations will arrive a day earlier and depart on Friday.

He said “…it is more correct to refer not to a Pan-Orthodox synod, but to a brotherly meeting”.

Several Primates of Orthodox patriarchates and Autocephalous Churches have declined to attend the meeting, or are sending junior delegations, reminding that only the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople has the right to convene such a meeting or assembly.
