Miracle-working icon of the Panaghia Faneromeni conveyed for commemoration for Thrace’s liberation

The miracle-working icon of the Panaghia Faneromeni Vathiriakos, which is preserved and venerated at the same-name holy monastery in the northeast Greek province of Thrace, was conveyed on Wednesday to the nearby city of Komotini, as part of celebrations today commemorating the centennial of Thrace’s liberation and annexation by the modern Greek state.

The holy icon was greeted with church bells ringing joyously throughout the city, as it was conveyed via a procession to the Metropolitan Cathedral of the Annunciation, by the Metropolitan of Maronia and Komotini, His Eminence Panteleimon, who was accompanied by clerics of the metropolis, armed forces personnel and the faithful.

A con-celebratory archieratical Divine Liturgy was then officiated by the Metropolitan of Thessaliotidos, His Eminence Timotheos, and co-officiated by hierarchs of the Thrace province.
