Monastery on Symi damaged by rock slide

Torrential rainfall on the small eastern Aegean island of Symi over the past week has resulted in a rock slide damaging the St. Merkourios monastery, at the isle’s Niborio site.

According to the site rodiaki.gr, the falling rocks and boulders caused damage but did not reach the main altar. According to local residents, the Metropolitan of Symi has issued a directive for special work crews to immediately secure the monastery from the risk of more rocks falling on it.
