Montenegro authorities continued to step up repressive measures against the Orthodox Church in the small Adriatic country, with the latest incident involving the demolition of a residence in a new convent, specifically at the St. Basil nunnery.
Currently, nuns at the nascent monastery, which surrounds an older cathedral dedicated to St. Basil, are living in a trailer home.

Similarly, the Orthodox Church in Montenegro on Sunday will resume peaceful prayer rallies and protests throughout the country in opposition to a controversial law regarding religious institutions. The Metropolitinate of Montenegro and the Littoral, which is a dependency of the Serbian Orthodox Church, charges that the law is aimed solely against Orthodoxy.

Under the new law, the state may confiscate assets and relics of religious institutions if the latter cannot present deeds or titles dating to before WWI.
