A new book was issued this week by the Moscow Patriarchate’s synodic department for charity, dealing with the issue of alcoholism and detoxification.

The book describes the reasons behind alcohol addiction and offers theological interpretations, including excerpts of addresses by the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, His Holiness Kirill, along with suggestions to overcome alcoholism.

According to the head of the charity’s center for combating alcoholism, Valery Doronkin, “…With this book we wanted to show that the Church has, for some time now, recognized that the consumption of alcohol in the life of an Orthodox Christian is entirely unnecessary, possibly even undesirable. You can live in sobriety.”
