The head of the Russian Patriarchal Commission on family matters, protection of motherhood and childhood, Fr. Theodor Lukianov, this month again touched on the issue of surrogate motherhood, a phenomenon that has expanded in Russia of late.
Fr. Theodor represented the Russian Orthodox Church in a session of a special experts’ work group studying the issue. He reiterated the Church’s standing opposition against this procedure, referring to an unacceptable act that violates the fundamental human rights and dignity.
