Following a decision by the Ecumenical Patriarchate to close cathedrals and monasteries under its jurisdiction, the monasteries on Mt. Athos on Thursday, according to exclusive reports by the Orthodoxia news agency, decided to close the monastic community to outside pilgrims and visitors.
The decision, reports state, came after a briefing by the community’s civil governor and members of the Greek government.
