Today, 18 September, our Church honours the memory of Saint Evmenios the wonderworker, Bishop of Gortyn. This day is particularly joyous for the Holy Archdiocese of Australia, as His Grace Bishop Evmenios of Kerasounta celebrates his Patronal Feast Day.

His Grace Bishop Evmenios has faithfully served, for 16 consecutive years, the holy altar and the Christ-loving people of our Holy Archdiocese in the State of Victoria. He has served for twelve years as Proistamenos of the Church of the Transfiguration of Our Lord in Thomastown, Melbourne, while in 2019 he assumed the duties of Vicar General in the Archdiocesan District of Northcote, Victoria. In August 2021, he was elected, by the Holy and Sacred Synod of our Ecumenical Patriarchate, assistant Bishop of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia, under the title of the historic Diocese of Kerasounta. In November of the same year, his episcopal ordination took place in Sydney, by His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia.

Throughout his priestly ministry and especially after his promotion to the Episcopal office, His Grace Bishop Evmenios has demonstrated a genuine ecclesiastical ethos and attitude, a pious zeal for serving the needs of the Orthodox Church, as well as a wonderful progress in the acquiring of spiritual virtues.

On the occasion of today’s patronal feast day, we sincerely ask God to grant him health, strength and a length of days, so that by making use of the various gifts and virtues he possesses, he may continue working with the same and more vigour for the benefit of the local Church, its Christian plenitude and the Greeks of Australia.
