Greek National Defense Minister Nikos Panagiotopoulos attended the celebrations honoring the Navy’s patron, Saint Nicholas, at the Navy Cadet school in Piraeus on Sunday.
A religious service was led by Piraeus Metropolitan Seraphim, and the event was attended by the leadership of the National Defense forces, including the chief of the general staff and the leaders of all defense branches.
In a tweet, the minister conveyed his best wishes to the Navy, and to “the defenders of our national identity and heritage”.
St. Nicholas is traditionally considered the protector of seafarers, in Greece.
