New academic year begins in Greece with traditional blessing ceremony
The new academic year in Greece began on Monday, with a traditional blessing ceremony held in the courtyards of all public primary and secondary schools, with public distancing measures in place.
After the blessing ceremony, clerics visited classrooms to bless the pupils and educators that were not in the courtyards.
In his message to educators for the new academic year, the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece, His Beatitude Ieronymos, emphasized that “… amid a period when life is displaying its harsher face, and hope appears fleeting in the world, you have assumed the most important task in this global reality: to maintain students’ hearts joyous and enthusiastic.”
