A pleasant surprise was in store for the organizers of this year’s Culinary Olympics and Intergastra, held last week in Stuttgart.
Among the roughly 2,000 chefs in the competition was Fr. Epifanios Mylopotaminos, an Athonite monk, cook, culinary author and wine producer on the semi-autonomous monastic community of Mt. Athos.

Fr. Epifanios, a member of the Chefs of Northern Greece Club, has written prolifically on the secrets of Mt. Athos’ cuisine and healthy dietary practices.
