The Orthodox bishop of Budimlje-Nikšic, His Grace Joanikije, this week emphasized that the Orthodox Church in the small Adriatic country of Montenegro fought for justice and democracy, ahead of last week’s Parliamentary election in the country.

The Orthodox hierarch said “…whoever strikes at faith, sanctity, dignity, and honour can never win… Whoever rules for 30 years, like Milo Djukanovic, is identified with the state, and places himself above the state.”

The final results from the ballot showed that President Djukanovic’s Democratic Party of Socialists, in power since 1990, had narrowly lost its majority, opening the way for government by political opponents.
